about

My work questions the boundaries of functionality while exploring the beauty of  everyday flowers. I like to draw inspiration most from flora that are usually passed by  without a second thought, such as flowering weeds or plants found in landscaping.  These blooming forms are replicated using porcelain, a traditionally fine material, to  reflect the delicacy of the petals.

Since clay is such a tactile material, my intent is to leave the marks of pinching and building for the viewer to see. Process is the most important aspect of my work so, by staining my clay before making, the colors are allowed to influence the form throughout the building process.
